He was a part of the family and he will be missed. "Run like the wind Bear" is what we called him. The first time Bear-Bear set paw on Folly Beach in Charleston, South Carolina, he took off and ran...he ran like the wind down the open beach to the waters edge. He was a free spirit and a wonderful friend.

My sister Susie adopted Bear-Bear at a Farmer's Market in Delaware (2 hours from home) when she was 15 years old. She immediately fell head over heels in love with the funny little guy and didn't think twice about spending all of her babysitting money right then and there (and without asking for my parents permission.) Bear had quite a few adventures with Susie during that first year of his life. My parents, who were hesitant at first, eventually grew to love him as well and Bear-Bear soon became a loving member of the family and a great companion dog.

Today is a sad day for my family as Bear-Bear left us early this morning.

I am teary eyed reading this. Our dogs are our babies and best friends, and I can't imagine the pain your family is in right now.
Our hearts go out to you, and we are thinking about you!
I hate losing a pet, it is so hard. I haven't experienced much death in my life, but when I lost a pet, it was very difficult to get over.. I think that might have to do with not really feeling like you get to 'say goodbye' like you can with another human being.
Sorry for your family's loss.
Oh, I'm so sorry for your family's loss. We lost our Lab a few years back and I still miss her terribly. It's those words not spoken that are the hardest but I'm sure they felt the love! :)
I'm so sorry. I lost my dog a few years ago and it was honestly the hardest thing I've ever gone through. Pets become such a huge part of our lives. Nothing can compare to the unconditional love they give us :(
oh dear, I am so sorry. There is nothing like the love a dog can give, and all that loving is packed into such a short time. He will always be a good memory for you and your family.
I am so very sorry, Karen. Losing a pet is very difficult. My Buddy died in December 2006 and I still miss him terribly.
Hugs to you. Please take care of yourself.
i'm so sorry.
he looked like a sweet sweet dog.
my oldest grandsons name is windbear. and when i typed it in for some reason it bought me to your story.. i feel your pain. last week while in the uintah mountains in utah. the snow began. as i was backing up my trailer my (teaser) border collie (old and deaf) somehow got under my rear tire. she died in my arms looking at me with those beautifull brown eyes.my heart exploded with pain. i cried for days. and still have tears of pain. we had her for 15 years and she was being treated for a heart murmer and was coughing more and more. the time was getting close. but i cant help think she would still be sitting by my side if i hadnt paid more attention. her partner (weddo) the same age, is still with us though. also a border collie and the smartest damn dog in the world. i can see the loss in his eyes also. they say time heals all wounds, and i belive it to be somewhat true.. a former viet nam marine, i have kicked around some, and had many losses. but these two dogs are my first dogs. and i cant belive they have touched my life as they have. so i say to you from my heart, how sorry i am for your loss. dont ever forget the kisses and eyes of something that loved you dearly. as i know your puppy did. may you walk the red path.
